About C-DAC

CDAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) is a scientific society under Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India. CDAC is working in the areas of high performance computing, Grid computing, cloud computing, ubiquitous computing, Language technologies. Ubiquitous Computing group is working on Embedded system design, wireless sensor node development, Zigbee, Wi-FI, Wireless body area networks, High speed network traffic generators. C-DAC and TI in collaboration with IEEE Circuits and Systems Bangalore Chapter and DigiKraft Technologies DigiKraft solutions organizing a four day workshop on Android Platform and the details for the same is as follows:

Workshop Details

Day1: Session 1:
ARM based embedded processor platforms from Texas Instruments CDAC’s wireless sensor node platforms, mobile computing platforms, and Gateways

Day 1->Session 2
Introduction and High Level Overview of Embedded Systems. ARM - Architecture Overview and Deep Dive. Introduction Embedded Platforms from TI

Day 1->Session 3 - Hands On
Introduction and High Level Overview of Embedded Systems.--Kernel, BootLoader, MLO, Window Manager

Day 2->Session 1
What is Board Bring-Up? Development vs. Deployment environments. Cross-Compilation for Embedded Targets. Host and Target Environments. Board Support Packages Kernel, BootLoader, MLO, Window Manager

Day2 -> Session 2 -> Hands On
Host Environment set up, GIT set up. Development Packages download and install, Java Runtime etc. Target Environment Set up, Setting up Minicom, Setting up NFS, SD/microSD card based booting. ‘Hello World’ on Host and Target.

Day2 -> Session3
Introduction to Android, Android Concepts. Android SDK and Android NDK. ADB, Manifest file, APK files Intent Filters and Content exporters, Processes and Tasks, Services and RPCs. Application states in Android AVD - Android Virtual Device. Android Kernel Support, Dalvik Virtual machine, Tasks, Activities. Android Application Framework, Media interfaces in Android.. Database Support for Android apps

Day 2->Session 4 ->Android Hands-On
Download and Install required packages. Introduction to Android SDK. How to Set up Android Virtual Device My first Android Application. What is an Android APK? Create and run and Android APK on Beagle Board

Day 3->Session 1
Linux on Beagle Board , Linux kernel overview. Difference b/w Linux and Android Kernel? Where to get the kernel sources? Short overview of Open-Source technologies.Compiling and booting a Linux Kernel. Running a custom kernel on Beagle/Panda Board.

Day 3->Session 2 -> Hands-On
Linux kernel overview Difference b/w Linux and Android Kernel? Where to get the kernel sources? Short overview of Open-Source technologies.

Day 4->Session 1
Introduction to driver programming. Introduction to kernel programming. Types of drivers Char/Block/Network Compiling and loading driver to kernel. Statically linked and Dynamically Linked driver modules. Setting up a test system for driver development. Cross compilation of device driver for Embedded Target Platform.

Day 4->Session 2 -> Hands-On
“Hello, World” Device Driver. Making changes to kernel modules and seeing them on target Platform


Speakers:
Experts from Texas Instruments (India), CDAC. DigiKraft Technologies Pvt. Ltd. will conduct the lectures and hands-on sessions.

Prerequisite for the workshop
This event is open to professionals, teachers, and Post Graduate students. We expect the participants to have a strong interest in Open Source development and Embedded Systems. A prior knowledge of Linux and C/C++ programming will be assumed.

Fee Structure:

  • Rs 10000/- for faculty members from Indian Universities; a 50% discount will be provided if the registration form is forwarded through head of the department
  • Rs 10,000/- for working professionals; a 50% discount will be available for CDAC employees
  • Members of IEEE will receive 10% discount.

The fee will cover a registration kit, participation certificate, and meals/refreshments on workshop days.

Note that the total number of participants will be limited to 40 and first-come first-served policy will be applied.
